Promotion of cultural tourism in conserving the core area of old Indian cities.

“India is the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend, and the great grandmother of tradition. Our most valuable and most artistic materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only!”
    —Mark Twain

India has a history of nearly 4500 years. The country has many historic cities which are famous for not only its tangible built heritage but also the intangible lifestyle, the culture and the traditions. Today the core city areas are rapidly transforming. The core city areas of old Indian cities are slowly decaying due to rapid uncontrolled urbanization in the cities.

Tourism worldwide is also known to have economic relation. If we agree with this, it raises few questions, Can promoting cultural tourism help in conserving the heritage of the core city areas of various cities? Do we need to relate tourism policy, conservation policy and urban renewal policies to develop a holistic road map to develop tourism and economy of the core city areas? Will such steps help to link the old with the new? What can be the role play of the architects and the town planners of the city?

As architects, planners and responsible citizens of the country do contribute to this issue.

Affect of Demonetization of currency on construction

India is still going through a tough time due to sudden demonetization of certain currency denominations in the country. We are still to assess the situation. On one hand people are supporting the move but on the other hand it has started a debate on the issue. Construction as an Industry is quite dependent on liquid cash reserve. This crunch has resulted in sudden stoppage of on going projects at many places. However, this may be just a temporary phase but as architects we need to take the stock of the situation and assess the after affects of this sudden demonetization move by the Government.

Let us start a discussion on the repercussions that this demonetization of currency may do in the construction spree and real estate growth that the country had been experiencing since last few decades.
